Lenny’s Story

Lenny arrived at CityReach Baptist Church (Oakden) one Sunday in July, 2001. He often spoke about how this opened up such a happy period of his life.

Len was hard to understand since he was profoundly deaf from an early age – but we came to understand Len’s “lingo” and better understand sign language. His life impacted every level of CityReach life – his simple faith was a challenge to us all and his love for the Lord Jesus and the Bible became his reason for living following his conversion.

Len loved to share something NEW he had been reading in the Bible – and what the Lord confirmed in his heart. His new found joy in the Lord was unmistakable to all who knew him. He also enjoyed the friendship and personal interaction at the Church lunches and he loved to chat with anyone who gave him time.

The work Len did around the CityReach Oakden property has been little short of sensational. He kept pressing on with the most menial tasks as well as the larger ones.

In his latter years he often expressed that he just wanted ‘to go home’. Lenny went to be with the Lord on July 23rd, 2014 at the age of 89.

Lenny donated the funds to CityReach that have been used to establish Lenny’s coffee caravan. He is a wonderful testimony to the grace of God in the way he has triumphed over many disabilities and problems to be loved by God and His people.
